CSC E-Commercial The following is one in a series of “E-Commercials”. This edition gives instructions on updating the agency database and internet with GE Cybercomp agency information: Our office receives agency update information daily via fax and e-mail from Francesca Pepoon. These setup sheets will request an update of new agencies, activating old Reliance agencies and adding or deleting states to an active agency. These require updates in both Point and the internet. Occasionally there will be requests to change phone or fax #’s, correct addresses, region codes and commissions. These are done only in Point. Updating the Internet: To update the internet side, you need to access the Beta update screens. Go to the internet and type in rel.pmsl.com/beta. This will bring up a sign-on screen similar to the binditnow.com website. Logon using 1 as the agency code, ecarreau as the agent ID and angie as the password. Click on the Support site. Click on Agency Database. Enter the 7 digit agency code in the box on the left side of the screen. There are 3 gray boxes representing the tables to update. T-Agent Update is used to add, delete or modify agents and passwords. (If this is a new agency, a gray box will ask if you are entering a new code. Click on Yes. This will assign an internal code number. Write this code number on the setup sheet. It will be used when processing the agency certificates.) Type in the agency name in the name field and press the Confirm agency changes button. This will update the agency name at the top of your screen. Press the back button to return to the update menu. (Note: you do not need to enter anything in the Comm Pct or Fax Ent fields) To update states, enter the agency code again (you will need to enter the agency code each time you update a table) and click on T-Agency Program update. On the bottom of the setup sheet will be the states to be added to the agency. States can either be primary or secondary. On the left side your screen you will see a drop down box for choosing states (defaulting to AK). Choose the state to be entered. In the program indicator field, choose Yes for a primary state. No for a secondary state. Click on the add state button. This will update the table. Do this for each state to be entered. When you have entered all states, click on submit and back. March 10, 2005 To: Jim Grady GM, Suncoast Broadcasting Re: Technical description Cool-Edit audio software Mr. Grady: Congratulations on the purchase of radio station WIBQ in Sarasota. As requested the following technical report provides an overview of Cool-Edit software. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions and if I can be of service in the future to your organization. Sincerely, Doug Miles Introduction Digital technology has revolutionized the broadcasting industry. Cool Edit Software is the premiere digital sound editing program for Windows being used in radio stations and recording studios today. Cool Edit enables the broadcaster to record, edit and mix audio files with greater efficiency and accuracy than ever before. The antiquated razor blade and tape method of editing audio tape is now a thing of the past. Cool Edit Software installed on your station’s computer network will save both time and money while increasing the quality of produced programming. While Cool Edit is useful in the recording industry to produce albums and CD’s, this description will focus on its use in the radio industry. Cool Edit Features Similar to a paint program which creates images with colors and special effects, Cool Edit enables the user to manipulate sound files with a click of a button. Cool Edit can be used as a tool in the production studio to create and produce commercials and recorded programming and also in the broadcast studio to capture and record on-air programming which can be converted to a compact disc format later on. Once installed on your station’s computer network and linked to the station’s audio board, Cool Edit can record files from any source played through the computer’s sound card. This includes voice files spoken into the microphones, audio files from compact discs and files downloaded from the internet. Once captured in the computer, Cool Edit has the capability to convert sound files into a variety of formats. It is particularly efficient in converting files to the standard MP3 format used in radio. Cool Edit has multiple functions to alter sound files such as Filter, Compress, Stretch and Amplify. The Filter function is used to eliminate hisses, pops and unwanted noise on a sound file. Cool Edit’s capabilities to compress, stretch and change the tone of a sound file are indispensable in creating split second timing for both commercials and on-air programming. Cool Edit has a variety of special functions that can add Reverb, Delay, Echo, Distortion and Noise Reduction to sound files enabling the user to create any type of imaginable effect which is particularly essential in the production of commercials. Another useful feature of Cool Edit is it’s audio capture function. By clicking on extract audio from CD, Cool Edit will download any type of audio file from a compact disc and convert it to a digital sound file which can be edited and formatted in any of a number of audio formats. Cool Edit can also extract audio from DVD’s (direct video discs). This feature allows the user to build a library of sound files to be edited in any type of production. Once sound files are downloaded and created, Cool Edit’s multi-track editing capabilities can be used to mix and edit files to desired lengths in a matter of minutes. Cool Edit has the capability of allowing the user to edit out files as small as 1/100th of a second. In commercials, breaths and pauses can be excised from audio files allowing for precision timing to the split second. A voice can be altered to a lower or higher register by using Cool Edit’s voice bender function. The entire sound of a commercial or program can be enhanced by choosing one of a multiple of sound environments that Cool Edit has in it’s palette of tools. Cool Edit’s sound environments include transforming a voice file to sound as if it was recorded over a telephone, broadcast over a loud speaker in a large auditorium or outdoors in a stadium. Music files can be altered and enhanced to create the desired mood and theme by using Cool Edit’s graphic and dynamic equalizer functions. Cool Edit has the facility to copy and paste a sound file within an already edited sound file making it possible to add single words, phrases or sound effects to that file. Advanced features of Cool Edit include its spectral view and frequency analysis function to determine the optimum format for broadcast quality sound. Cool Edit is equipped with a memory function that enables multiple presets to store your favorite processing function settings. Installation Cool Edit is available either as a download from the company website (www.syntrillium.com) or in a CD Rom format. It is compatible with all Windows systems with a minimum hard drive space of 40 gigabytes. Cool Edit can be installed in as little as sixty minutes on most computer systems. If the radio station has a LAN (local area network), installation may take a few hours, but will be accessible on all network computers within the system. Cool Edit has a built in Help feature that provides step by step instructions on all of its features and functions. The manufacturer, Syntrillium Inc. also has a tech support hotline with a knowledgeable staff on hand to answer any questions about Cool Edit. Cost The latest edition of Cool Edit is currently priced at .00. Once purchased and installed, Cool Edit provides periodic upgrades at a substantial discount. The benefits to radio stations who use Cool Edit software are both cost efficient and time efficient. What used to take hours to edit using audio tape, razor blades and editing tape, now can be done in minutes using Cool Edit’s digital technology. The majority of people who use Cool Edit for the first time, learn the basics within an hour or two. Cool Edit’s ease of use and helpful How To Guide allow for quick self learning. Cool Edit improves the bottom line for radio stations by cutting down on the time needed for production and eliminating the need for audio tape and taping equipment. Cool Edit’s comprehensive array of functions and abilities is equivalent to having thousands of dollars of professional audio equipment at a fraction of the cost in one easy to use software package.
